Feb 11 2008, it was a pretty normal day, i was expecting Rob to be home By Wednesday the 13. I was having contractions pretty far apart. I went to bed around 4 am, i could not sleep at all, i tossed al around i was uncomfortable. i got a call at 7 am that Rob was in Atlanta and should be home at 10:30 am, so i called mama and nonno to tell them i needed a ride to the airport to pick him up. After that i tried to rest but i was too excited to see him, we got to the airport around 10 am, his plane was on time. I saw him come through the doors, i was so happy to see him. We went home and settled in, i took a short nap which i needed cause i only got 2 hours of sleep. I really didn't have anything planned to do, then i really didn't feel right, so i called the on call nurse at the Doctor's office to tell her my symptoms, she advised me to go to the triage. last week on the 6 th iwas there and they sent me home telling me it wasn't time yet, so i was a little hesitant to go again and get sent home. I called mama and they were not home so i called Zia Paula and she came and picked us up at 3pm. We got into the triage and i got my cervix checked on the 6th i was 4 centimeters dilated so i knew i must be farther along now. turns out i was 7cm dilated and 90% effaced, i was pretty much ready to go. I had Rob make all the phone calls to people to let them know that i was going to be having the baby that night. So by the time i got to my room, mama, and my mom and Peggy were there already. I had got my IVs put in, i needed antibiotics because i was strep B positive. so for the first few hours i was good , talking, laughing, i really didn't feel like i was in early labor, I wanted to eat but they would not let me, i got ginger ale and cranberry juice and popsicles. Then the nurse came in with DR. Pemetsma to break my water, all i could think this is gonna suck. And out came the crochet looking thing, and it actually didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable. as soon as it hooked GUSH!!, it was so weird, it felt like i was peeing myself and i could not stop, i was wet and warm. It trickled for awhile too. then the strong contraction's started, i asked for NuBain, and it really didn't do much for me, it took the edge off a little bit, i had the shakes really bad, then my personality changed, no more fun loving Christina, i had my mind on getting through the pain and working to get the baby out. Nu Bain also made me a little spacey , after a little while i could not take the pain anymore and i asked for the epidural. By that time it had to be around 9pm my Aunt Josie and Oreste got there, also Fran got there around the same time too. They sent everyone out of the room for the epidural i asked to keep one person so my aunt Josie stayed with me to walk me through it. The anastegologist came in and set everything up it was very nerve racking waiting for him, but the numbing stuff went in then it really wasn't so bad, it wet by quick. Then everyone was allowed back in. Then i was on cloud nine, i could not feel any contractions, it was weird though that i could not feel my legs, that was a little scary. after that all sense of time escapes me. Next i remember the nurse Jenna telling me i was ready to push and i couldn't believe it was time already, so i got the oxygen mask put on and starting pushing like i had practiced for months, i kept thinking just don't poop yourself Christina nobody wants too see that. The nurses helped me push for awhile i had my mom and Josie on each side, my poor Rob was trying to nap through all this he was so tired from his flight and the time difference. I did have a mirror in front of me for a little while i did get to see his head start to crown, and i remember dark hair and wow i can stretch that much.It started to get tough towards the end pushing because i was so tired, i didnt stop though cause i knew he had to come out and nobody else was going to push for me, Oreste was holding my left leg for me then he let Rob get in and that's just about when his head was half way out, i could feel the immense pressure down there and the DR was pulling on his head and she stuck her hand by his shoulders and wiggled him out, and he popped out at 11:36 pm, I was relieved! no more pushing and i finally get to meet my little one after nine long months, I remember them asking Rob to cut the cord, then they finally gave him to me to hold for the first time. They took him over to the table afterwards and checked him out, they were worried he was a little on the pale side, but everything checked out all right, they weighed him at 6 pounds 14 ounces and 19.5 inches long, he was born exactly 38 weeks gestation. Everyone in the room was happy, my mom Fran , mama and rob were crying, i started to bawl right after they took him out of my arms i was so overwhelmed. So the night went on and at around 12:30 am we tryed to breastfed and he just was not having it, he did not like the boob, we had to supplement with sugar water and formula, all in all, the L&D experience was good, it did hurt but in the end the reward is great
